CAA Launches National Cold Start Contest

Encourages Canadians to Winterize and Win

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2012) - The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), Canada's largest membership-based organization, launched today the Cold Start Contest, a campaign to remind the country's drivers about the importance and benefits of preparing for the impending winter driving season.

The online contest (www.caa.ca/coldstart), which will run until December 10th, offers Canadians an opportunity to refresh on core winter driving safety tips and seasonal vehicle maintenance upkeep that can help to increase safety in winter conditions as well as save money and trouble down the road. Participants have a chance to win weekly prizes and even a grand prize of one of three $1500 CAA Travel Certificate simply by brushing up on the winterization tips.

"The Cold Start Contest is a great opportunity for all Canadians to review some simple tips and get timely reminders of key steps for winterizing their vehicle," said Jeff Walker, VP of Public Affairs, CAA National. "Avoid letting Old Man Winter get the best of you or your vehicle!"

CAA's Cold Start Contest is open to all Canadians who have reached the age of majority in their province.

CAA Winter Driving Safety Tips include:

  1. Get your vehicle ready for winter in the fall
  2. Adhere to regular battery maintenance
  3. Have your brakes checked
  4. Install four matching winter tires
  5. Pack an emergency roadside kit
  6. Maintain good visibility - remove all snow from your vehicle before each trip
  7. Plan your trip, check road and weather conditions
  8. Give yourself extra travel time in bad weather
  9. Avoid using overdrive and cruise control on slippery roads.
  10. Travel with a fully charged cell phone
