CAA North & East Ontario Announces Diamond Award Winners

Awards Honour Excellence in Dining and Accommodation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 24, 2009) - CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) will be recognizing the five restaurants and six hotels located throughout the North & East Ontario region who achieved Diamond status in 2009 during the Four & Five Diamond Awards Dinner Presentation on Thursday, March 26, 2009. The event, which will be taking place at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel, Suites & Conference Centre, will feature Brent Wilson, Chair of CAANEO's Board of Directors, and Tim Georgeoff, President & CEO of CAANEO, who will be present during the ceremony to honour and recognize all winning North & East Ontario establishments.

The list of lodgings and restaurants receiving the prestigious 2009 Four Diamond Award (number of consecutive years in parenthesis) includes: Beckta Dining & Wine (5), Perspectives (6), Brookstreet (6), Fairmont Chateau Laurier (12), Minto Suite Hotel (15), Westin Ottawa (26), the Inn at Manitou (15), the Inn at Manitou Dining Room (5), Marriott Ottawa (2), and The Capital Dining Room (2). The region's only 2009 Five Diamond restaurant, Signatures @ Le Cordon Bleu, won for the fourth year in a row.

The five restaurants and six hotels located throughout North & East Ontario are part of a select group of Four and Five Diamond Award winners. Just 3.9 percent of the more than 31,000 CAA/AAA rated lodgings and 2.8 percent of the 27,000 CAA/AAA rated restaurants receive the coveted Four Diamond Award, and only 0.28 percent of all lodgings and restaurants evaluated by AAA/CAA receive the prestigious Five Diamond Award.

"Four and Five Diamond lodgings and hotels represent the best the hospitality industry has to offer," said Korey Kennedy, Manager of Public & Government Affairs for CAANEO. "Lodgings are upscale in all areas and offer guests a wide range of amenities. Restaurants feature a distinctive fine dining experience, outstanding service and creative and complex menus. We are proud that many establishments in our area have reached this level of service and are pleased to honour them with the Four or Five Diamond Award."

The assignment of a CAA/AAA rating of One to Five Diamond marks the completion of a successful annual evaluation. All properties must first meet CAA/AAA's rigorous requirements and guidelines during an evaluation by one of their full-time professional inspectors to become CAA/AAA approved.

CAA/AAA's Diamond Rating System is the only ratings system that covers all of North America and one of only two that conduct physical, on-site evaluations. It is the only system that uses full-time, professionally trained evaluators to inspect each property on an annual basis using a set of guidelines that are made available to all establishments. CAA/AAA rates more properties than any other rating entity.
