CAA Recommends Winter Tires

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2008) - With winter now upon most parts of the country in full force, the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that winter tires are designed for use in snow and are strongly recommended during the winter months. CAA encourages motorists to prevent problems before they occur by engaging in safe winter driving practices, using winter tires, and packing a winter emergency kit.

CAA is Canada's largest member-based traffic safety advocate and with Quebec's winter tire legislation in effect as of Monday, CAA will be following the Quebec situation closely. CAA is encouraging other provinces to closely monitor the effect it will have on motorists' safety to determine whether or not the legislation saves lives and reduces collisions.

"Winter is here and the safety of our 5.3 million members and all Canadians is a major concern," says Chris White, vice president of public affairs for CAA. "With the holiday season quickly approaching, CAA encourages motorists to be prepared this winter driving season - prepare your vehicle, plan ahead, and drive defensively."
