Cabela's Kicks Off Grand Opening Celebration of New Store in Edmonton

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Aug. 2, 2011) - Cabela's Incorporated (NYSE:CAB), the World's Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will open its first retail store in Alberta at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"Cabela's is thrilled to open our first store in Alberta," said Jeff Tymo, General Manager of Cabela's Edmonton store. "We have been fortunate to attract staff members who are passionate about the outdoors and they have worked hard preparing for this grand opening."

"Once customers step inside and see the broad selection of products and the store's unique and educational features, like our Conservation Mountain, they'll understand why we're so excited to open," said Tymo. "We expect people will arrive early to be among the first to experience what we have created here."

Grand Opening events kick-off at 9 a.m. with a free concert by Edmonton-based recording artist Colleen Rae.

Edmonton City Councillor Bryan Anderson, Cabela's Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner and Cabela's Canada President Carl McKay will assist with the ribbon cutting before the doors open. Cabela's Pro Staff member Steve Ecklund of Red Deer will serve as master of ceremonies.

A number of celebrities will be on hand on opening day including Taylor Wright, host of "The Canadian Tradition" television show; professional hockey player Steve Macintyre and former professional hockey player Louie Debrusk.

The Grand Opening continues all weekend with giveaways and appearances by top outdoor celebrities, including Mariko Izumi, host of "Hookin' Up with Mariko Izumi"; Michael Short, host of "Let's go Outdoors"; Tom Nelson, Cabela's Pro Staff member and host of Dead Down Wind's "American Archer"; fly-fishing legend Jack Dennis, Cody Robbins, host of "Live 2 Hunt"; and Cabela's Pro Staffer Claudio Ongaro. Miss Rodeo Canada Kezia Morrison and Miss Rodeo Canada Princess Kirsten Braumandl will also attend. Details are available online on the store events page.

Customers can also enter draws to win a seven-day bull elk hunt in B.C. (valued at more than $10,000) and a Cabela's outfitter package valued at more than $5,000. The first 100 people through the door on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a special gift.

Cabela's 6,500-square-metre (70,000-square-foot) interior is designed to immerse customers in the outdoor experience. People visiting Cabela's Edmonton store will be surrounded by a broad selection of hunting, fishing and outdoor products and attractions including:

  • Hundreds of conservation-themed wildlife displays and trophy animal mounts re-created in their native habitats
  • Cabela's hallmark Conservation Mountain, complete with a running waterfall and wild game display
  • Indoor archery range where archers can test and fine-tune their equipment.
  • Murals by Edmonton-based artists Dave and Al Thomas, depicting the Alberta landscape and serving as backdrops for stunning dioramas
  • World-class Gun Library, providing gun collectors and aficionados the opportunity to browse through examples of the gun-making art
  • A counter serving Cabela's famous home-made fudge, a customer-favourite,
  • Bargain Cave filled with great prices on returned, discontinued and special-deal merchandise

Cabela's Edmonton store hours will Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cabela's is located at 6170 Currents Drive at the Currents of Windermere, just off Terwillegar Drive and the southwest leg of the Anthony Henday Drive.
