About : D. Michael Anderson, Ph.D., MPH

Dr. Anderson has over 25 years' experience in public health research design and ethics. He is a leader in the reviewing, funding, and commercialization of behavioral research and development of health promotion and disease prevention, including tech-based applications. Currently the Board Chair & Human Subjects Protections Administrator for the Federally-Authorized Health Media Lab Institutional Review Board (IRB) in Washington, DC, Dr. Anderson is responsible for the assurance of human subject protection protocols for USAID-funded research projects throughout the world. Clients include The World Bank, Futures Group Global, Mathematica, FHI 360, as well as several others. Dr. Anderson is the President and Founder of Health Media Lab, Inc., where he has been Principal Investigator on 20 National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded R&D projects in innovative health promoting technologies.

He was the CEO and Creator of Accel e-Media, an entrepreneurial business for commercialization of NIH-funded projects and other online education and training for professionals and consumers, including hospitals, health insurers, medical practices, nursing homes, schools, universities, museums, businesses, and organizations. Prior to his current positions, Dr. Anderson served as President and Founder of Millennium Health, Inc., consulting in the application of new technologies to health and medicine, including research design, grant writing, data analysis, and commercialization for several universities and other health organizations.

As Program Director at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under NIH, Dr. Anderson was responsible for the scientific, programmatic, and technical management of research grants and contracts. He was active primarily in project solicitation, grant application guidance, and program management for R&D in the application and commercialization of new technologies to cancer prevention and health promotion for small businesses. Additionally, he was the Creator and Director of the NCI Skin Cancer Prevention Research Initiative, Director for several major research grants targeting high-risk youth (tobacco, nutrition, alcohol, and sexual activity), and performed oversight of the NIH peer review process for grant applications. While at NCI, Dr. Anderson conducted database organization, data collection, and analysis of NCI's telemedicine Cancer Information Service, plus analysis of other large national data sets. He also played role of NIH representative, board member, and advisor on over 30 national public health research boards and committees. He has also authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers and presentations.

Dr. Anderson received his Ph.D. and MPH at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
