Cal Water Offers Facebook Promotion, Conservation Tips for U.S. EPA WaterSense Fix-a-Leak Week

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 5, 2014) - Fix-a-Leak Week is March 17-23, 2014, but California Water Service Company (Cal Water) is building water conservation awareness all month long through a new "Which H2O Hero Are You?" campaign on the utility's Facebook page.

Through March 31, anyone can go to www.facebook.com/calwater, like the page, and take a short quiz to find out what kind of water hero he or she is and get water-saving tips. Cal Water customers can also enter a raffle to win their choice of a new high-efficiency clothes washer or smart irrigation controller.

Fix-a-Leak Week is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency WaterSense program, which Cal Water supports to help customers save water and learn how to use it efficiently, which is now more important than ever given the fact that California is in a drought.

"Household leaks are sometimes obvious, but the sources can also be hidden," said Ken Jenkins, Cal Water's conservation manager. "It's important to find and fix even small leaks, because over time, a faucet that drips just five times per minutes can waste more than 200 gallons per year."

To learn how to detect leaks, visit www.calwater.com to watch Cal Water's "How to check for household leaks" brief instructional video. Additional ways to save water can be found at www.calwater.com/conservation.

Cal Water serves about 2 million people through 473,100 service connections in California. The company has provided water service in the state since 1926. Additional information may be obtained online at www.calwater.com.
