Calderon Visit to Canada AGENDA UPDATE

Attention: News and Assignment Editors re: North American Leaders' Summit August 17-22, 2007

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 17, 2007) - DURING PRESIDENT CALDERON'S VISIT TO CANADA AUGUST 17-22, 2007 OUR UFCW CANADA REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST MEXICAN JOURNALISTS IN GETTING THE FULL AND TRUE STORY ABOUT THE ONGOING CHALLENGES FACING MEXICAN WORKERS IN CANADA.

UFCW Canada is a national Canadian organization that over the last decade has led the campaign for improved working conditions and rights for the thousands of Mexican migrant workers who come to Canada each year.

In February 2007 we were invited to Mexico City to participate as a delegation to the Mexican Congress Commission on Population, Borders and Migration.

In June 2007 five Federal Deputies from Mexico returned the visit and came to Canada to conduct their own investigation of the challenges facing their Mexican citizens while working in Canada, as well as to visit some of the seven Migrant Agricultural Workers Support Centres we operate across Canada. Over the years these centres have provided thousands of Mexican workers legal, translation and counseling services including advocacy for safer working conditions and workplace rights.

Copies of the two reports (in Spanish) delivered to the Commission as well as our Annual Report on The Status of Migrant Workers in Canada can be found at www.ufcw.ca/calderon.
