Entry Deadline Extended to March 15

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Feb. 25, 2014) - The Calgary Folk Music Festival and Ship & Anchor Pub have announced the category judges for the 11th annual songwriting competition. Among the group of familiar Alberta music industry faces is the Calgary Herald's Mike Bell, CBC Radio 2's Katherine Duncan, and Juno-winning producer/engineer/musician Russ Broom.

Alberta artists can submit their songs for a chance to perform live at the finals, held May 17 - 19 (Beaver Tales and Untapped Newcomer May 17, Youth and Upstart May 18 and 35/35 Hindsight and Pros and Prose May 19) at the Ship & Anchor Pub. Your fabulous songs will be assessed by an equally stellar collection of local industry folks: Chris dela Torre (CBC Radio/musician), Eric Volmers (Calgary Herald), Lisa Wilton (Metro), Greg Curtis (Tooth Blackner), Tara Slone (City TV), Candace Elder (Alberta Music/NMC), Tom Coxworth (CKUA), Kat Dorian (CJSW), Lindsay Shedden (Alberta Music), Paul Van Kampen (musician), Vic Close (Fish Creek Concerts), Mike Bell (Calgary Herald), Susan Knight (Up! 97.7), Russ Broom (producer/engineer/musician), Andrew Mosker (NMC), Susan Knight (Up! 97.7), Chantal Vitalis (musician), Katherine Duncan (CBC Radio), Mary-Lynn Wardle (writer), Donna McTaggart (Calgary Folk Club) and more.

We've turned the contest up to 11 by including a new category and new prizes and sponsors. Our friends at the Bow Valley Folk Club have come on board as a cash sponsor of the new Upstart category and Fish Creek Concerts are a new supporter. As well, there's a career-building prize courtesy of the National Music Centre. The "Get Me On Stage!" prize pack gives the winner of the Youth category the opportunity to put on their own show at the NMC, with logistical support.
