Calgary Food Bank and Mount Royal University Sign Memorandum of Understanding

CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - October 05, 2015) - Wednesday, the Calgary Food Bank and Mount Royal University will enter into a memorandum of understanding that advances the pursuit of hunger-free communities.

The MOU strengthens a longstanding partnership between the two institutions to share knowledge, expertise and resources. The agreement allows for additional learning exchanges and other collaborative activities of joint interest.

James McAra, President and CEO of the Calgary Food Bank, and David Docherty, President of Mount Royal, will sign the agreement during an on-campus event.

"Post-secondary schools play a role in creating caring citizens," said McAra. "The Calgary Food Bank offers opportunities for students and professors to work on complex social concerns through the lens of their specific expertise."

In keeping with the University's strategic goals, Mount Royal seeks to develop new teaching, learning and research partnerships with community organizations. Students will directly profit from this agreement through work experience, course projects and research opportunities.

"Everyone benefits from experiential learning opportunities," said Docherty. "This partnership enriches the student experience, contributes to health and nutrition research, and makes a positive impact in the community.

"We look forward to further addressing the important issue of food poverty in Calgary."
