Calgary Homeless Foundation: Media Advisory

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 4, 2011) -

YWCA of Calgary celebrates new Housing First program in partnership with the Calgary Homeless Foundation and First Calgary Financial Wednesday, April 6, 2011

What: Cupcake-decorating party for women who previously experienced homelessness as they receive permanent housing at The Ophelia with support by the YWCA in partnership with the Calgary Homeless Foundation and First Calgary Financial. The program is built on the "Housing First" model, where the priority is to quickly move people experiencing homelessness into appropriate housing first and then begin to work on the issues that contributed to their homelessness from the stability and safety of a home. This program is unique in that it helps to fill a gap in the housing market for strictly single homeless women.

When: Wednesday, April 6, 2011, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
The formal program will go from 12:00 to 12:30 and media interviews will occur from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Where: The Ophelia apartment complex in Lower Mount Royal.
Note: to protect the residents of The Ophelia, some of whom may be victims of domestic violence, the address will be provided upon request.
