Calgary Homeless Foundation: Migration to Calgary Puts Pressure on Homeless-Serving System

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 28, 2012) - At today's 2012 Annual General Meeting, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) will describe how emergency shelter use is increasing as people migrate to Calgary for work and are unable to find affordable housing.

"While we are fixing the overall homeless-serving system to be more effective and coordinated, and helping a number of people with housing and support, more people are coming to Calgary to work and are unable to find affordable housing," said Tim Richter, President and CEO, CHF. "The most impactful thing we can do right now is add more low-rent housing in Calgary and continue our focus on rehousing long-term shelter stayers."
