CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Dec. 19, 2013) - The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) wants to help you get home safely over the holiday season. Customers who have paid for a parking session in a CPA surface lot or parkade on a Friday or Saturday evening can extend their parking session until 10 a.m. the next morning, for free.
"The Extend Your Stay program encourages Calgarians to make their way home using safe ride programs," said General Manager Troy McLeod. "This option allows drivers to leave their vehicles with us so that they can make their way home safely."
Customers can park their vehicles at many CPA facilities for as little as $2.00 after 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The "Extend Your Stay" program was implemented in December 2011 to promote safe ride programs and keep city streets safe during the holiday season.
The CPA reminds Calgarians to plan ahead and decide how they will return home before they walk out the door. CPA encourages residents to use safe ride programs, Calgary Transit, a designated driver or taxi service as an alternative to driving under the influence.
A map of all CPA surface parking lots and parkades can be found online: www.calgaryparking.com or by using the MyParking app.
The Calgary Parking Authority fulfills the City of Calgary's parking mandates and implements the municipality's parking policies by managing on and off-street public parking facilities, enforcement programs and by providing parking advisory services.
Each year the CPA contributes a portion of its net revenue to the City. In addition, the CPA spends $1M administering the residential parking permit program at no cost to taxpayers and operates parking enforcement services and the municipal impound lot on a break-even basis.
The CPA operates without using any municipal tax revenues.
