Calgary Timeraiser Generates Thousands of Volunteer Hours Instead of Dollars

It's Time to get in the Picture!

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 12, 2007) - Getting involved in your community isn't always easy. That's why this year's Calgary Timeraiser is set to make it simple for people in their 20s and 30s to find meaningful volunteer opportunities to fit their busy lifestyles. The Timeraiser is a charity art auction where rather than money you bid volunteer hours - there will be 25 different volunteer organizations, each with multiple opportunities, from which participants can choose.

The Calgary Timeraiser Team is inviting Calgary and area media to take part in the 2nd Annual Calgary Timeraiser on Thursday, June 14 at Victoria's Bistro & Lounge on 17th Avenue.

Schedule of events
7:00 p.m. Doors open to participants, special guests and media. All guests
receive their personalized registration materials.
8:00 p.m. Volunteer matching begins. Participants meet with the various
agency representatives
9:00 p.m. Silent art auction opens. Participants bid against each other up
to a maximum bid of 150 hours. Participants have 12 months to
fulfill their pledges.
10:00 p.m. Art auction closes. The winning bids are collected and the total
number of hours pledged is tallied.
10:30 p.m. The MC announces the total Timeraiser pledge.

Timeraiser goal is to raise 5,000 hours of volunteer time.

The goal of each Timeraiser is to increase community engagement among Canadians. To date, Timeraisers in Calgary and Toronto have generated over 25,000 volunteer hours, encouraged 1,100 Canadians to pick up a cause, invested $142,000 in the careers of Canadian artists and supported the efforts of 140 voluntary organizations.
