Calian's Divisions Sign Long-Term Contracts

KANATA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 13, 2009) - (All amounts in this release are in Canadian Dollars)

Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX:CTY) is pleased to announce that it's US subsidiary, Calian Technology (US) Ltd. has been awarded long-term contracts from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) to continue providing professional, technical, and administrative support services in support of Australia's RAAF Technical Liaison Office. The services will be delivered near the Naval Air Systems Command located in the Naval Air Station Patuxent River and include financial and administrative support, logistical analysis and systems engineering support for both the existing RAAF F/A-18 as well as the new F/A-18 Super Hornet procurement.

The initial contracts cover services as well as operating and facilities costs for 5 years and have a base value in excess of $6 million and could reach over $8 million if all options are exercised. The primary contract also contains a provision for an additional five-year option period, which if exercised could increase the total value of the contract to over $18 million for the ten-year period. This Contract will allow Calian to continue to support RAAF F/A-18 project, a relationship that first began in 1988.

"Our RAAF TLO delivery team has provided exceptional technical service and support to the RAAF over the past two decades. This renewal, which also provides for optional expanded services in support of the RAAF Super Hornet program, confirms the Defence Materiel Organization's high level of satisfaction with our work." said Tom Coates, Vice President and General Manager, Business and Technology Services.

On a similar note, Calian's Systems Engineering Division (SED) recently signed a long-term contract for satellite operations with an undisclosed customer to support their next generation mobile satellite program. Under a 15-year contract, SED will operate satellite gateway equipment which will be located in a purpose-built leased facility adjacent to SED's existing headquarters in Saskatoon. Contract revenues including flow-through costs are expected to be approximately $0.5 million per year.

This signing is in addition to a similar long-term contract previously announced with the Ottawa-based Ciel Satellite Group, to provide operations services for the Ciel-2 satellite for the next 10 years. SED began monitoring and controlling the Ciel-2 satellite following its successful launch in December 2008. The services are also provided from SED's Saskatoon location where its satellite control facilities were recently expanded to accommodate the Ciel requirements.

"We are very pleased to add these long-term contracts to our operations as they capitalize on our satellite communications expertise as well as help to offset the peaks and valleys associated with our traditional project business" stated Brent McConnell, Vice President and General Manager, SED.
