Painter Peter Adams, Sculptor Béla Bácsi Receive Top Honors for Original Art Showcased at This Prestigious Contemporary-Traditional Fine Art Event

PASADENA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 3, 2007 -- California fine artists Peter Adams and Béla Bácsi received "Best of Show" honors at the California Art Club's 96th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Frank M. Serrano, chairperson of the annual display, announced the winners before the more than 500 in attendance at the exhibition's Artists' Gala Reception on Saturday, April 28.

Adams, the nationally renowned painter from Pasadena, Calif., and Bácsi, the Hungarian-born sculptor who now lives in Santa Barbara, Calif., were selected to be honored with Gold Medals by their peers, the 170 artists whose artwork was selected by a panel of art experts and museum curators for inclusion in this extensive exhibition of contemporary-traditional fine art.

The winning sculpture by Bácsi, entitled Octopus, was exquisitely carved out of marble. Adams took the Gold Medal for his still life painting of Asian objets d'art, Prajnaparamita, Perfection of Wisdom.

The Club also presented a new award this year -- the Edgar Payne Award for Best Landscape Painting, in honor of the famed landscape artist who served as the ninth president of the historic organization. This award was bestowed upon Richard Humphrey of Torrance, Calif., for his painting The Cliffs and Sea at Point Vicente.

The Gold Medal Exhibition will be on display through Sunday, May 20. Admission to the exhibition is included with museum admission, which is $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. The Pasadena Museum of California Art is located at 490 E. Union St. in Pasadena. Hours of operation are 12 noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
