California, Idaho and Oregon Families Celebrate National School Choice Week

Online Students Attending Virtual Academies Connect In-Person on Education Options

SIMI VALLEY, CA--(Marketwired - January 23, 2014) - Parents are increasingly seeking customized education opportunities and exercising choice in their children's school with options like full-time online education and blended school options that combine online and in-classroom learning. The week of January 26-February 1, 2014, families will celebrate National School Choice Week -- the nation's largest-ever celebration of educational opportunity.

In California, Oregon and Idaho, students at several full-time, online public schools will meet at local celebrations as part of 5,500+ independently-planned events nationwide during National School Choice Week 2014. Participating schools include California Virtual Academies, Idaho Virtual Academy, Oregon Virtual Academy and Insight School of Oregon, all of which use the award-winning K12 curriculum.

Students, parents and staff from these online public schools will participate in events like sock-hops, beach cleanups, superhero day and park days to support National School Choice Week and show how important educational choice is for students seeking academic rigor or an environment without distractions.

"In response to the many challenges kids can face in the traditional classroom, parents are excited to have more choices," said Katrina Abston, Senior Head of Schools at California Virtual Academies. "Some families find that a one-size-fits-all classroom may not suit their child's individual needs. California Virtual Academies is able to offer those students an option that can help them get the most out of their K-12 education."

California Virtual Academies, Idaho Virtual Academy and Oregon Virtual Academy are full-time online public charter schools for grades K through 12 which combine active parent involvement with instruction from state-credentialed teachers and an innovative digital learning platform. Instruction is mastery-based and the schools are tuition-free for students in grades K through 12 who are state residents.
