Call for Bids to Host 2014 Commonwealth Games in Canada

Attention: Sports Editor OTTAWA/ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 8, 2005) - Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC), the Canadian franchise holder for the Commonwealth Games, invites Canadian cities and municipalities with an interest in bidding to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games to submit their "letters of intent" by July 22nd, 2005.

"Since the Board decision and announcement to pursue a Canadian bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, a number of cities from across the country have expressed an interest", stated Tom Jones, CEO of CGC. "Today, we are releasing our Call for Bids document, our formal invitation to domestic cities and municipalities to submit a "letter of intent" to the CGC office outlining their interest, reasons and capacity to host the Games, along with a non refundable deposit of $5000.00".

The following is a reminder of the timelines for the selection of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Host City:

Domestic Phase
July 22, 2005 - Deadline for "Intent to Bid"
August 2005 - Bid City Conference
November 1, 2005 - Deadline for Full Bid Proposal
December 2005 - Announcement of Canadian Bid City
March 15-26, 2005 - 2006 Commonwealth Games, Melbourne AUS

International Phase
April 2006 - CGF opens 2014 Bid Process
April 2007 - Bid Lodgement
October 2007 - Announcement of 2014 Games Host City (Sri Lanka)
