Calling All Control Freaks

Approva Launches Interactive Campaign That Gives Control Freaks the Love They Deserve

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - September 8, 2010) - Most people don't like being called a control freak, but Approva® Corporation (www.approva.net), the leader in continuous controls monitoring (CCM) and audit automation software, thinks it's something to be proud of.

To celebrate "Type A" people everywhere, Approva announced today the launch of its newest interactive campaign, Control Freak, which will serve as a safe place for like-minded people to read, enjoy custom content and interact with other controlphiles.

"We know people call us control freaks behind our backs," said Michael Evans, Vice President of Marketing for Approva. "And we're here to say, 'it's okay!' By launching our Control Freak interactive campaign, Approva is taking back the term for all the conscientious people out there working to keep businesses transparent, efficient and honest whether you are a CFO, auditor, accountant, IT security pro or risk manager. So go ahead, you can call us control freaks. We call it good business."

The cornerstone of the online campaign is the re-launch of Approva's popular blog, Audit Trail, under a new name: Control Freak (http://approva.net/controlfreak/). Approva first launched its blog in February 2007, with a direct appeal to the very special community of individuals who "Love a Good Audit" (you know who you are!). Under the banner of Control Freak, Approva's blog will continue spreading the love by expanding its reach from just audit lovers to the discreet but passionate community of professionals who just cannot get enough of controls -- whether that's internal controls, controls automation, continuous controls monitoring or controlling the in-laws.

"Those of you who have followed Approva for a while know that we love a good audit as much as anyone else," said Evans. "By launching this interactive campaign we're aiming to honor those individuals who work day in and day out to make that love possible. Control freaks can provide so much more than just a clean audit: they can change your life -- and your business -- for the better."

In addition to the blog, the Control Freak campaign (which can be found at www.ilovecontrolfreaks.com) will also feature new Control Freak-themed content over the coming months that encourages control lovers to let their freak flags fly high, including:

  • Control Freak Q&As -- One-on-one sessions with prominent industry Control Freaks featured on Approva's blog.

  • Should've Had a Control Freak Videos -- Two-minute vignettes chronicling situations crying out for a little help from a control freak (or two).

  • "Out of Control" Surveys -- Stories and fun facts from the trenches -- be they cubicle or C-suite -- on business situations a bit out of control.

  • Onetropolis (www.onetropolis.com) -- A virtual online city where visitors (or their avatars) can see first-hand a business world where control freaks run the show. Come and visit. No passport required!

  • "How-To" Manual -- The official Control Freak eBook, with a handy step-by-step guide for becoming a control freak (or living with one).

The larger Control Freak campaign (#ctrlfreak) seeks to address years of unfair, unflattering and uncalled for portrayals of the controls-minded in media and popular culture. Control freaks unite!

"We aren't pencil pushers, or number crunchers, or sniveling pocket-protected loners," said Evans. "We're the people who keep business running smoothly, who make sure there's a plan before there's execution -- the people who live to improve efficiency and reduce risk. We're Control Freaks. We're strong, we're proud and we're fighting back."
