Calling Mums All Over the World: 10 Minutes of Free Calls on Mother's Day

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - This year, Sunday 3rd April is Mother's Day in the UK, but did you know that Mother's Day is celebrated on 40 different days of the year in other countries? Tesco International Calling Card is celebrating Mother's Day by giving away ten minutes of free calls to each of these countries on their official Mother's Day.

Graham Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Tesco Telecoms commented:

"Mums are loved all over the world so we wanted to make sure that everyone is able to give them a call on their native Mother's Day – no matter where or when in the world it is celebrated. Research shows that a call on Mother's Day is the most treasured gift amongst mothers* so we're sure Tesco International Calling Card's ten minutes of free calls will put a few smiles on faces throughout the world, throughout the year."

Many countries, including the USA and Japan, will celebrate Mother's Day on 8 May this year. In Japan, children draw pictures called 'My Mother' and enter them into an exhibition which tours around the world in celebration of mothers and peace.

In India, the Hindu festival of Durga Puja starts on 3 October and lasts for 10 days. The festival is in honour of the goddess of protection, the Universal Mother.

In Poland, Mother's Day is celebrated on 26 May. In parts of Eastern Europe, it is playfully marked by the mother being tied up by the children, with only the promise of treats and candy earning her freedom!

So whether Mum lives in Africa or Australia and celebrates Mother's Day in March or October, her children can show just how much they care by giving her a call on her own Mother's Day. And with 10 minutes of free calls with a Tesco International Calling Card, they've got no excuse not to.
