Cambridge Public Schools Selects LearningQube Learning Management Platform to Drive New System

SynapticMash's End-to-End Education Portal Will Power the District's Innovative Student Performance Data System

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - June 23, 2009) - Cambridge Public Schools -- the school district supporting the Boston-area community that is home to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and Lesley University -- has selected SynapticMash's LearningQube® learning management system to drive its new student performance data system. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Youth and Resource Development system -- or YARDs -- will be the primary portal used by Cambridge staff, students, parents, and community members to access all student performance data and to collaborate around student achievement. Add the collaboration aspect that the social network platform provides via SynapticMash's LearningQube platform, and YARDs will feature a powerful portal that brings students, teachers, parents and administrators into one online collaborative space.

Expected to launch in September for the new school year, YARDs also will tie school information to city of Cambridge programs. The city's Human Services department offers a range of children's services including early literacy programs, before and after school care, community schools, clubs, sports and more -- programs that would benefit from a district-city connection.

"Cambridge has long been interested in sharing data between its programs and our schools to measure effectiveness as well as to better meet the needs of the children," said Steve Smith, chief technology officer for Cambridge Public Schools. "Driven by the SynapticMash modules, YARDs will support data sharing as well as collaboration between the school staff and city staff who work with the children."

Powered by the LearningQube suite of products, the YARDs portal will be a secure environment in which data will be presented in a user-friendly format. Intended as a collaboration tool centered on measures of student performance, the portal will serve as a secure site so that students, teachers and parents can monitor performance data with progress towards specific goals and objectives such as graduation. Students also can access data specific to their own goals and objectives.

Cambridge will utilize three modules from the LearningQube suite of solutions: MashQube, an eco-system used by educators, parents, and students to collaborate on curriculum development, content, and learning; ExamQube, a platform offering advanced assessment reporting capability; and DataQube, a data warehouse with deep analytical/reporting capabilities and constant access to critical data. SynapticMash also will aid in the installation and testing of the program, and with staff training.

The LearningQube platform analyzes the education environment, captures and organizes critical data to enhance curriculum management, and facilitates decision making that affects student outcomes. Comprehensive and collaborative, LearningQube offers easy access to data indicators that address student performance issues.

"The YARDs system represents the sort of forward thinking and innovative planning long associated with Cambridge Public Schools," noted Joe Egan, vice president of business development for SynapticMash. "The LearningQube platform was designed to augment such a system, delivering comprehensive student performance data that in turns drives more informed decisions by all."
