Can Man City Derail United's Treble Dream in FA Cup Semi Derby?

Sporting Index make Red Devils 0.3-0.5 Supremacy favourites in crunch Wembley clash

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - April 15, 2011) - Manchester United kept their hopes of a repeat of 1999's sensational treble alive with a disciplined victory over Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday. Spread betting firm Sporting Index make them narrow favourites for their FA Cup semi-final against local rivals Manchester City on Saturday.

Sporting Index offer a United/City supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5, offering spread punters the chance to challenge them by going higher (if they believe Manchester United will win by a goal or more) or lower (if they expect a draw or a City victory). Manchester United's win index for the match is set at 13.5-15 (25pts for win, 10pts for draw) while City's equivalent spread is just 8.5-10.

According to the firm's FA Cup outright index, where 100pts are given to the winner and 70pts to the runner up, Roberto Mancini's men are joint second-favourites to win the tournament, at 65-68, and given the same chance as Bolton Wanderers, who will contest the other semi-final against Stoke (62-65).

Should City exit the FA Cup, the club can say goodbye to any chance of silverware for the season, while they still face a tough battle to secure an all-important place in the Champions League next year. Currently fourth in the Premier League, Sporting Index's traders predict they will just pip Tottenham Hotspur to qualify for the Champions League in 2011/12 as they offer City a spread of 17-20 and Spurs 11-13.

It's a similar story for United's midweek scalp, Chelsea. After an outstanding start to the season, the Blues now have only the slimmest hope of winning the Premier League title and are given a win index spread of 31-34, behind Arsenal (36-39) and Manchester United (56-58).

"It's really heating up at the business end of the season," comments Wayne Lincoln, Sporting Index spokesman. "Manchester United are certainly in the driving seat for Saturday's match on form, but in a knockout game of this magnitude we know that anything can happen."
