Canada and Manitoba Governments Open an Expansion to the "Dial-A-Life" Housing Complex

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Jan. 15, 2016) - The third phase of the Dial-A-Life housing project in Winnipeg will provide a home away from home for Indigenous families whose loved ones require ongoing, lifesaving treatment for renal failure, cancer and other chronic health issues. The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Honourable Mohinder Saran, Minister of Manitoba Housing and Community Development announced the official opening of this initiative today.

Quick facts:

• The Governments of Canada and Manitoba have provided more than $6.3 million toward the four-storey, 24-unit building on Watson Street. The property includes eight two-bedroom, 13 three-bedroom and three four-bedroom units. All units are fully accessible and the building meets Manitoba Hydro's Power Smart standards.
  
  
• The project is located next to the first two Dial-A-Life properties, which provide 36 additional housing units for medically-displaced families.
  
  
• Dial-A-Life Housing Inc. was established as a non-profit corporation in 1991 to provide safe, suitable and affordable long-term housing for Indigenous people and their families who must move to a new community for ongoing medical care.
