Canada Day: a Full Day of Fun for the Entire Family at the Old Port of Montreal

MONTREAL, QC--(Marketwired - June 30, 2014) - On July 1, the Old Port of Montréal will vibrate from morning to night with the colours of Canada Day. There will be more than 50 activities on offer, most of them free, to delight lovers of arts and culture, science, sports and pure entertainment.

Spend the day at the Old Port of Montréal
With its 30 regular summer activities and its rich, daylong Canada Day programming, the Old Port is the place to be in Montréal on July 1. The enchanting 2.5 km site, bordered on one side by the St. Lawrence and on the other by an expansive grassy promenade, has everything you could want for a day of fun and relaxation. With activities, picnic area, beach, inflatable games, sports rentals, fast or fancy food, exhibitions, a big show and fireworks, the day is sure to be memorable for Montrealers and tourists alike.

Fanfare and cake
The Canadian Armed Forces Military Band will kick off the Canada Day festivities at 11 a.m. At noon, the crowd is invited to share the enormous Canada Day cake.

Move to the groove
In the afternoon, visitors can groove to the rhythms of the Beat Box and DJ-ing participatory workshops. Starting at 8.30 p.m., gifted musicians will take over the main stage: Michael Murphy, Luca 'Lazylegz' Patuelli, Elizabeth Blouin-Brathwaite, Sunny Duval, Dawn Tyler Watson, Paul Deslauriers and Pascale Picard. The fireworks spectacle will close the festivities at 10:15 pm.

History and culture
Besides the exhibition on the prehistoric Lascaux cave at the Science Centre, culture lovers can explore aspects of the history of our country and provinces in the Canada Tent, with its historical tour, or make their own Native American dream catchers and bracelets.

A family outing
In addition to the fabulous free beach, open from 11 a.m, located near a playground on the Clock Tower Pier on the east side of the site, families on Canada Day can enjoy the inflatable game village or makeup workshops starting at noon. Near the big stage, the Science Centre also offers four permanent exhibitions, including Clic, for ages 4 to 7, and the ever-popular Science 26 for all ages. And two critically acclaimed films, one on the lovable lemurs of Madagascar and the other on the Galapagos Islands, are screening at the IMAX®TELUS Cinema in the Science Center. Its food court and terrace are a great place for a family lunch break.

Expending energy
The new Peur Dépôt offers a series of experiences, one scarier than the next. Not for the faint hearted! Other activities let visitors exspend their energy without the fear factor, including pedalos, quadricycles, and the leaping Kangoufit.

River cruises
Several cruise lines will take you aboard for a bucolic river excursion or an adventure in the rapids. Details on the regular and Canada Day activities at the Old Port of Montréal are available at
