RunningFlat announces the new medal design for the Canada D'Eh 5K Run in Amherstburg Ontario on July 1st, 2014.
Canada D'Eh Run has a unique 'open source' medal, the only one in running where the runners from the year prior, while registering, vote for whose likeness they want to be on the following year's medal. "The runners from 2013 suggested everyone from Laura Secord and the Friendly Giant to Chris Hatfield and Pierre Burton. So we tally them up and this years runners get to vote from the top three," explains Chris Uszynski, the Race Director. The top three were Rick Mercer, Wayne Gretzky and Terry Fox. "We are proud to say that Terry Fox was voted as this years 'Great Canadian' and he will be on that award winning finishers medal this year," added Uszynski.
Last year, Sir John A. MacDonald was honoured as the first Prime Minister of Canada. The Canada D'Eh 5K race takes place in Amherstburg, Ontario and starts where Canada's history began. The start and finish line are just outside the Parks Canada site Historic Fort Malden and starts off a day of celebrations in a historic small town on the Lake Erie/Detroit River Coast.
This run was designed to be bombastic and incredibly patriotic, totally over the top with red and white everywhere. "We need to celebrate Canada Day like our American friends celebrate the 4th of July; loud and proud - just no blue," jokes Uszynski. Canada D'Eh 5K Run is also a walk and has a kid's dash.
