Canada Enhances International Research and Business Collaboration

Minister of State Wraps Up Japan Visit


TOKYO, JAPAN--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2012) - The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), has wrapped up his visit to Japan, where he participated in the ninth annual Science and Technology (S&T) in Society Forum in Kyoto. The Minister of State also met with senior government officials and leaders from business and academic circles to discuss concrete ways to promote innovation through collaborative partnerships.

"There are tremendous opportunities for international researchers and businesses to come to Canada and carry out research and development," said Minister of State Goodyear. "My visit to Japan allowed me to showcase these opportunities and promote stronger links with Canadian innovators."

In an address delivered to conference delegates from 80 countries, the Minister of State underscored the Harper Government's approach to science and technology, its achievements in building partnerships between academic and business interests, and its direct and indirect support of innovation. He encouraged further international cooperation, stronger business relationships and enhanced trade with Canada.

Minister of State Goodyear also took part in the Japan-Canada: Global Cluster Collaboration Forum that took place in Tokyo just before the larger S&T in Society meeting. The forum aimed to build a new collaborative relationship between Canada and Japan by bringing together experts and researchers as well as government officials from both countries.
