Canada Enhances Research Collaboration Opportunities with India and the United Kingdom

NEW DELHI, INDIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2010) - Today, in an address at the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), gave closing remarks about his tour abroad and declared the Canadian mission to India a great success. The Minister of State was leading a delegation of Canadian university presidents on a visit organized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada to promote collaboration between Canadian and Indian post-secondary institutions and researchers.

On his way to India, Minister of State Goodyear stopped in London, UK, and met with representatives from government and industry to discuss issues related to science, innovation and knowledge transfer.

"Because of the leadership of our government, there are now tremendous opportunities for international researchers and businesses to come to Canada and invest in research and development," said Minister of State Goodyear. "My visits to London and New Delhi gave me a chance to showcase these opportunities and promote stronger linkages with Canadian researchers and innovators, which will benefit the economies of Canada, India and the UK."

The Minister of State delivered a keynote address yesterday to the Canada–India University Presidents' Round Table, in which he underscored the importance of international research partnerships in promoting economic growth. He also met with a number of senior government officials, including the Honourable Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences; the Honourable Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development; and Dr. Rajagopala Chidambaram, the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
