Honouring the 119 Canadians killed on international peacekeeping missions

What: A special ceremony honouring the 119 Canadians killed on peacekeeping duty

- A spectacular skydiving display by the SkyHawks Canadian Forces Parachute Team

- Acknowledgement of Peacekeepers Day from the Province of Alberta

- City of Calgary proclamation of August 9th as Peacekeepers Day

- The dedication of Buffalo Park honouring the nine Canadian Peacekeepers (Buffalo Nine) killed when their Buffalo aircraft was shot down while on UN Peacekeeping duty in the Bekka Valley in Lebanon on August 9, 1974

- The unveiling of a Buffalo aircraft propeller on permanent display in the park

- Meet surviving family members from the "Buffalo Nine"

- An update on Canada's Lands developments in Calgary

- Unveiling of the Garden of Remembrance to commemorate the Year of the Veteran

Due to the passing of Ernest "Smokey" Smith, Canada's last surviving
Victoria Cross winner, Veterans Affairs Minister Honourable Albina
Guarnieri, will not be attending Peacekeepers Day or Buffalo Park dedication
Ceremonies as previously advised. Veterans Affairs Canada will be
represented by Mr. Derek Sullivan, Director General, Canada Remembers Division.
