Canada Post: Embargo on Mail to Lebanon

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 28, 2006) - Canada Post wishes to advise its customers that postal service is temporarily suspended to Lebanon. The embargo is necessary due to a lack of reliable transportation to this country.

Except for Purolator International items, all other mail destined to Lebanon will not be accepted at postal counters. Customers are advised not to deposit any items destined to Lebanon in street letterboxes. Canada Post also asks commercial mailers to refrain from sending mail to Lebanon.

Canada Post will affix a Return to Sender - Temporary Suspension of Postal Service label on mail currently in the postal system bearing a return address, and return it to sender if the suspension is not lifted. Once service resumes, Canada Post will accept as postage paid cancelled items bearing the Return to Sender - Temporary Suspension of Postal Service label.

Service will resume once transportation to Lebanon is back to normal. Canada Post will keep customers apprised of any further changes.
