OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 21, 2014) - Department of National Defence
The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Tom Lawson, hosted his counterpart from the United Kingdom this week, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, for the Partners in Defence Dialogue. This annual meeting enables high-level discussions on issues of mutual defence interest, including joint training and exercise opportunities, and the sharing of best practices.
- The Partners in Defence Dialogue is an annual military to military discussion which takes place between Canada and the UK, and highlights the active and mutually beneficial bilateral defence partnership between our two countries.
- The host country rotates from year to year.
- The last PDD was hosted in London in 2013.
- The defence relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom is based on strong historical ties and is fostered by close cooperation in international organizations including the United Nations (UN), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), among others. Both countries place a high priority on defence and security cooperation, as has been highlighted by operations in Afghanistan and Libya.
"This meeting provided Canada with a tremendous opportunity to exchange information with one of our closest and oldest allies. These discussions enable our nations to strengthen our military relationship, and to advance our work together to meet our common security challenges."
