Canada's Economic Action Plan Serves Quebec Processing Facilities

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 11, 2011) - Canada's Economic Action Plan is delivering real results for Canada's food producers and helping them deliver the highest quality food to consumers at home and abroad. The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced an investment of $1,813,000 in support of Van Houtte to improve its processing equipment, allowing the company to increase production capacity and enter new export markets.

"Thanks to Canada's Economic Action Plan, our government continues to support Quebec producers, driving the economy and helping them access new markets," said Minister Paradis. "This investment helped Van Houtte increase production, which in turn gives local processors more opportunities to boost their bottom line."

A coffee company based in Montreal, Quebec, Van Houtte's business lines include roasting and retail, coffee services, coffee equipment, and café-bistros. The company purchased and installed two K-Cup processing machines, two high speed cartoner machines, and two case packer-palletizers.

This repayable contribution is delivered by the Agricultural Flexibility Fund through the AgriProcessing Initiative, a five-year, up to $50-million initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of the food processing sector in Canada. It provides support to existing companies for projects that involve the adoption of innovative and new-to-company manufacturing technologies and processes that are essential to sustaining and improving the sector's position in today's global marketplace.
