Canada's Environment Minister Named World Economic Forum Young Global Leader for 2008

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 12, 2008) - Canada's Environment Minister John Baird today was named one of the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders for 2008. Minister Baird is among 245 leading executives, public figures and intellectuals from around the world under the age of 40 awarded this honour in 2008.

"I am honoured to receive this award," said Minister Baird. "Like the World Economic Forum, our Government recognizes that climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. We have demonstrated leadership by taking real action both at home and on the world's stage to tackle this issue. Both Canada and the World Economic Forum understand that we must work together with the world towards an integrated and comprehensive approach to tackling climate change and air pollution."

Other honourees for 2008 include Ahmad Nader Nadery (Commissioner of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission) Anderson Cooper (Anchor, CNN), Ed Miliband (Minister of the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom), and Leonardo DiCaprio (Actor).

Canadian honourees include Kristine Layfield (Director of Programming, CBC Television), Aaron Pereira (Founder, Canada Helps and Vartana); and Eira Thomas, (Chief Executive Officer and Director, Stornoway Diamond Corporation).
