The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, today announced that, for the first time in history, Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide is now available in 10 additional languages.

"Our Government recently updated the Canada Food Guide to promote healthy eating among Canadian families. Today I'm proud to announce the translation of this guide into 10 new languages, to ensure this information reaches our diverse Canadian population," said Minister Clement. "We are making Canada's Food Guide available now in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi (Persian), Korean, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Urdu."

"These resources are a welcome addition for health educators and will assist dietitians to better promote healthy eating to our culturally diverse populations," said Lynda Corby, Director of Public Affairs for Dietitians of Canada.

Canada's Food Guide has been one of Canadians' most trusted sources of information for 65 years. It is designed to help Canadians make healthy food choices by integrating the science of nutrition and health into a practical pattern of eating. The latest version, released in February 2007, acknowledges the changing ethnic make-up of Canada by including a range of foods from a variety of ethnic cuisine.

A Web-based interactive tool is also available to Canadians to print in multiple languages. For more information on Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide or to obtain a translated guide, please visit the Healthy Canadians Web site (www.healthycanadians.gc.ca).
