Canada's New Government Announces $673,056 Contract for Wharf Renovations

PORT HOOD, NOVA SCOTIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 21, 2006) - A $673,056 competitive contract has been awarded to J & T Van Zutphen Construction Inc, of Port Hood, Nova Scotia, to repair the Pictou Landing Wharf. Awarded on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed in January 2007.

The announcement was made today by Bill Casey, Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley, on behalf of the Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

"This contract demonstrates the fact that Nova Scotia companies have what it takes to win federal contracts," said Mr. Casey. "I am glad that a local company will be repairing the Pictou Landing Wharf. The federal government recognizes the importance of this wharf to the local fishing economy."

Work under this project consists of demolishing and disposing of all components indicated to be removed, reinforcing concrete repairs, supplying and installing a new treated timber batter, as well as bearing and fender piles, new pile caps and new bracing, wales and sheathing.
