Canada's Newspaper Industry Comes Together at INK+BEYOND 2011

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 20, 2011) - Newspapers will hear some good news about industry innovation at INK+BEYOND next week when more than 250 publishers, editors and corporate executives converge for the 92nd annual conference. The event, to be held April 29 - 30 in Richmond, BC, is hosted by Newspapers Canada, in partnership with the British Columbia Community Newspapers Association.

"Newspapers in Canada are positioned to embrace rapid technological change," said John Hinds, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newspapers Canada. "Both dailies and community papers are bedrock news sources and powerful advertising vehicles – on any platform. They have strong national and regional brands preferred by both advertisers and readers."

According to recently released NADbank figures, 15 million Canadian adults (78%) read a daily newspaper each week either in print or online, while 74% read the last edition of their community newspaper (Combase 2009).

Multiplatform strategies, print design, sales techniques and newsroom management are just some of the topics to be discussed. Speakers include:

  • Geoff Tan, senior vice-president of Singapore Press Holdings
  • Dr. Mario R. Garcia, founder and CEO of international design firm Garcia Media
  • Robert Whitehead, director marketing and sales, Fairfax Media, Australia
  • Jim Gerber, director of content partnerships for Google
  • David Olson, community marketing director for social media dashboard maker HootSuite
