Canada's Sci-Fi Film/TV Awards Nominees Announced For 2009

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, FILM/TV AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT--(Marketwire - April 8, 2009) - This year's nominees for The Constellation Awards, Canada's annual awards honouring excellence in Science Fiction Film and Television, were announced this week at a press conference held in Toronto.

The direct-to-DVD film "Stargate: Continuum" picked up the most nominations this year, including nominations in the "Best Actor" category for Richard Dean Anderson, and in the "Best Actress" category for both Claudia Black and Amanda Tapping. Other nominations in the film categories include multiple nominations for the Oscar-winning film "WALL-E" as well as for the box office hit films "Iron Man", "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army", and "The Dark Knight" - including a "Best Actor" nomination for the late actor Heath Ledger.

In the television categories, Canadian Co-Production "Sanctuary" picked up six nominations, including a second "Best Actress" nomination for Canadian actress Amanda Tapping. Other nominees in the TV categories include multiple nominations for "Doctor Who", "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", and the Vancouver-filmed series "Supernatural" and "Battlestar Galactica".

In perhaps the most interesting category, "Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television", actress Amanda Tapping earned her third nomination of the year. She was nominated in this category against the "Stargate" Franchise of series and films as well as the Vancouver-based series "Sanctuary" and "Supernatural".

All Canadian fans of science fiction film and television are now invited to vote for their preferences in all nine award categories. Winners will be announced on July 11th, 2009 at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel, as part of the Polaris 23 Science Fiction Convention.
