Canada's Top Chefs Cook Up Great Images for Canon Canada's Annual Other Side of the Lens Exhibit

Food Banks Canada to receive $25,000 on behalf of participants

Kitchens are not the only place where Canadian chefs show off their creative flair. For the past six months, high-profile chefs from across Canada have accepted the challenge to create images that capture the theme "Food for Thought" for Canon Canada's annual Other Side of the Lens photo exhibit and charity fundraiser. Participants used Canon's PowerShot SD890 IS Digital Elph to capture their images.

This year, Canon Canada will donate $25,000 to Food Banks Canada on behalf of the 13 celebrity chefs who participated in the Other Side of the Lens program.

"Food Banks Canada is honoured to be the charity of choice for Canon's Other Side of the Lens program and to benefit from the participation of these eminent chefs," said Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director. "This donation will make a real difference to the more than 700,000 Canadians who turn to food banks for assistance each month."

Images from the exhibit range from whimsical to serious and are now available for viewing online at Selected images from the exhibit were unveiled today at a launch event at Veritas Restaurant in Toronto. Participants Chef Brad Long, owner of Veritas, Chef Susur Lee of Lee's and Madeline's in Toronto; Chef Michael Smith, host of Chef Abroad and Chef at Large, and Chef Mark McEwan, owner of North 44, were in attendance to introduce the program.

"It's been an absolute pleasure participating in this program," said Michael Smith, the Food Network. "Canon provided a theme and then gave us absolute freedom to interpret that theme in any way we wanted. While that can be extremely liberating, it can also be very challenging because you're not entirely sure where to take that theme. In my case, I think I've created some images that will get viewers thinking about the origins of food, as much as how to prepare it."

The other celebrity chefs participating in the program are:

- Chef Lorna Murdoch of Fusion Grill in Winnipeg;

- Culinary activist Anita Stewart of Elora, Ontario;

- Chef Anthony Walsh of Canoe in Toronto;

- Chef Anthony Sedlak of The Main in Vancouver;

- Chef Robert Clark of C Restaurant in Vancouver;

- Chef Remi Cousyn of Calories in Saskatoon;

- Chef Judson Simpson, Executive Chef at the House of Commons, Ottawa;

- Chef Craig Flinn of Chives Canadian Bistro in Halifax, Nova Scotia;

- Chef Michael Blackie, Executive Chef of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
