Canadian Armed Forces Member Recognized

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 2, 2013) - Master Seaman Malerie Aylward, from Tignish, Prince Edward Island, posted to Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Summerside in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of 12 deserving Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members who were chosen for the CAF Recognition Program and presented with a Chief of the Defence Staff Commendation for deeds or activities beyond the demand of normal duty. She will visit Ottawa from May 31 to June 3, 2013 to receive this honour and take part in several events.

Master Seaman Aylward grew up in Tignish. She enrolled in the Naval Reserve in April 2005 at Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Queen Charlotte as a cook. She graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts, and since then has been working full-time as a cook in various positions in Halifax. During the summer of 2011, Master Seaman Aylward completed her Primary Leadership Qualification training and has sailed on different vessels including Yard Auxiliary Generals, Orcas, and Frigates.

Presently serving on Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Summerside as the Chief Cook, she continues to demonstrate her exceptional planning and organizational skills as well as her sensible leadership for all important events.

During their visit, the members will take part in the Walk/Run in Red, tour the Canadian War Museum and attend a special brunch hosted by Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Cléroux, Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer. They will also be recognized in the House of Commons during Question Period.
