TO FOCUS ON LAW ENFORCEMENT CHALLENGES Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 19, 2005) - More than 350 police chiefs and executives from across Canada will attend the CACP annual conference in Ottawa, August 21-24, to discuss some of the challenges and substantive issues faced by law enforcement today.

The Ottawa Police Service is hosting the conference, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of CACP and the 150th anniversary of policing in Ottawa. This year's conference focuses on "Building on Traditions" by looking at the achievements of the past and the strategies needed to remain the voice for public safety in the future. Two news conferences are planned and will be held in the media room (Governor General's room) on the second floor of the Westin Hotel:

Aug. 22 (Mon), 4:30 p.m. EST Release of Canadian Police Research Centre report on conductive energy devices (tasers)

Aug. 24 (Wed), 11:45 a.m. EST Final news conference
