Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) Donates $25,000 to PFLAG Canada

MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2008) - PFLAG Canada, (formally Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), is pleased to announce a significant financial contribution from the Canadian Auto Workers Union in the amount of $25,000.

The grant was provided through the CAW's Social Justice Fund in support of PFLAG Canada's 2008 program schedule, which includes a planned expansion of the organization's community-based support network, investment in school anti-homophobia initiatives, and additional resources for parents, youth, teachers and people confronting issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The CAW contribution comes at a time when an increasing number of Canadians are turning to PFLAG Canada for help. "Many people still experience difficulty coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans-identified," says Cherie MacLeod, PFLAG Canada Executive Director. "PFLAG Canada supports them through this transition and lends an understanding ear to parents and family members who have questions and concerns of their own." MacLeod notes, "There is also growing public interest to understand sexual and gender diversity, particularly among professionals working in education, business and health care fields." PFLAG Canada supports diversity initiatives in schools and the workplace by providing education and resources.

"The donation recognizes the important work of PFLAG and underscores the ongoing commitment of the CAW to creating a positive environment for LGBT members and their families," said CAW President Buzz Hargrove.
