Canadian Coalition for Good Governance Names David Denison as New Chair

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2009) - The Canadian Coalition for Good Governance has named David Denison, President and Chief Executive Officer of the CPP Investment Board (CPPIB), as its new Chair. Denison succeeds Doug Pearce, CEO of BC Investment Management Corporation, whose three-year term as Chair expired.

"I am honoured to accept the position of Chair of the CCGG," said David Denison, "and on behalf of the Board and the members of the Coalition, I would like to thank Doug Pearce for his commitment to the Coalition over the last three years".

"Since its creation in 2003, the CCGG has played a very constructive role in encouraging Canadian companies to adopt strong governance practices on behalf of their owners and to foster direct interaction between shareholders and boards of directors. As we look ahead, we will continue to seek progress on our key focus areas, notably the elimination of barriers to shareholder democracy, achieving a strong linkage between executive compensation and corporate performance, and promoting the creation of a credible enforcement regime within Canada's capital markets," Denison said.

CCGG is a coalition of 41 of Canada's leading institutional investors representing more than $1.2 trillion in assets under management. The mission of the Coalition is to represent Canadian institutional shareholders to promote good governance practices in Canadian public companies, the improvement of the regulatory environment to best align the interests of boards and management with those of their shareholders, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the Canadian capital markets.
