Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaking Operations Scheduled for Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River

SARNIA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 18, 2011) - Commencing Saturday March 19, 2011 the Canadian Coast Guard will be conducting icebreaking operations on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River main channel. Coast Guard icebreaking operations support the safe and efficient navigation of commercial vessels. Harbours in Picton Ontario and Bath Ontario will also be visited by a Coast Guard icebreaker in preparation for shipping activities.

Any ice along shipping routes and in ports should be considered unsafe and the Coast Guard advises everyone to stay clear. Tracks can remain open long after the ships have departed the area. Light spring ice will result in hazardous and unstable conditions.

Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers have a red hull with a transverse white band and a white funnel bearing a maple leaf.
