Canadian Coast Guard Leads Environmental Response In Northern Quebec Community of Salluit


SALLUIT, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 8, 2015) -

The Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Terry Fox is on scene in the northern Quebec community of Salluit responding to a fuel spill. The spill occurred during a routine generator fuel re-supply of the community by M/T Sarah Desgagnés late on October 7th.

The Canadian Coast Guard was notified of the incident and dispatched its closest vessel immediately. The CCGS Terry Fox arrived on scene by 8:30 a.m. local time October 8th to engage in the response operation. No fuel has been found on the shore. The CCGS Terry Fox and the M/T Sarah Desgagnés have the necessary pollution response equipment on site to respond to this incident. Transport Canada will fly over the affected area later today.

The Canadian Coast Guard, the M/T Sarah Desgagnés and partners are working together to ensure the protection of area residents and the marine environment.
