Canadian Coast Guard to Carry Out Work in the ile aux Raisins and ile du Moine Area

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 20, 2014) -

The Canadian Coast Guard would like to inform the public that between now and February 28, 2014 at the latest, selective pruning and tree cutting will take place in the Île aux Raisins and Île du Moine range light corridor.

This will improve the visibility of these aids to navigation, which are critical to mariners yet completely obstructed from the southern part of the navigation channel.

Measures are in place to prevent damages to the environment and riverbanks. The affected land owners, including Environment Canada, have been notified.

Between Québec and Montréal, a vessel must change course at least 55 times, and it is thanks in part to the 51 Canadian Coast Guard range lights in the area that mariners are able to determine the proper course to follow.
