Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors Commends Saskatchewan Government for Proposed Changes to Labour Laws

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 19, 2007) - The Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD) applauds the Government of Saskatchewan for tabling changes that introduce more balance between employers and unions during the certification process, as well as improving the response timeline of the Labour Relations Board.

"This is a very positive step" said Justin Sherwood, Western Vice President of the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors, "ensuring a democratic certification process through secret ballot, and allowing employers to communicate directly with their employees during the certification process which starts to address some of the inequity in Saskatchewan's Trade Unions Act".

"Saskatchewan needs to create a positive labour relations environment" he continued, "this will allow unionized Saskatchewan businesses to compete locally and globally. Repealing the three-year limitation on the length of collective agreements and ensuring timely decisions from the Labour Relations Board will assist greatly. CCGD, a member of the Saskatchewan Business Council, is pleased the government has moved quickly on its election promises and we hope this positive momentum will continue".
