The Canadian Dental Hygienists Association Celebrates International Federation of Dental Hygienists Day: World Wide Promotion of Childrens' Oral Health

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2005) - The Canadian Dental Hygienists Association joins dental hygienists from 23 countries to promote the importance of childrens' oral health. On October 12, 2005, in celebration of International Dental Hygienists Day dental hygienists around the world will present special activities promoting the importance of early childhood oral hygiene.

Oral health starts with our children's first teeth. Sugar is the main enemy of teeth. If a baby is put to bed with a bottle containing even a little sugar, then the baby's mouth is continually rinsed with this sugar. Within a short period of time tooth decay may develop. Decayed teeth may fall out early or need to be removed. Early loss of these first teeth means that adult teeth may grow in crooked. If children are thirsty during the night the CDHA recommends giving them water to drink.

The dental hygienist can answer all your oral health questions. They are prevention professionals who will give you information about prevention and oral health through all stages of life. Oral health information for parents and teachers is available on the CDHA web site at www.preventionprofessionals.ca or visit Smile City at: http://www.smilecity.ca/
