Canadian Forces Newest Officers Enrolled

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 11, 2012) - Fourty-nine young women and men from Barrie and the Greater Toronto Area became the newest officers in the Canadian Forces during a Regular Officer Training Program enrolment ceremony in Toronto today.

Major Hans Kissmann, the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre Toronto Commanding Officer, presided over the ceremony for the new officer cadets, who will spend the next four years studying at university and participating in military training during the summer.

"These young Canadians are making an important investment in their future and Canada", said Major Kissmann. "They have been selected from approximately 2 000 qualified applicants to attend either the Royal Military College of Canada, in Kingston, the Royal Military College Saint-Jean, or a Canadian civilian university as part of their career in the Canadian Forces. These officer cadets and their families are beaming with pride today and they should because today marks an important milestone in their young careers."

The 49 new officer cadets, who represent the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force, will be attending orientation training in early August before beginning their post-secondary education in September. In summer 2013, the officer cadets will undergo their Basic Military Officer Qualification training in Saint-Jean, Quebec.

The Regular Officer Training Plan combines a first class university education, personal and physical challenges as well as leadership development, leading to a career as a commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces. As mentioned above, the selected officer cadets will be attending either the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, the Royal Military College Saint-Jean or a Canadian civilian university, in cases where a specific academic program is not available at either or the military colleges.
