Canadian Forces Newest Recruits Enrolled

QUÉBEC, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - July 28, 2012) - Today, 15 men and women from the Québec region became the newest officers in the Canadian Forces (CF) during an enrolment ceremony held on the flight deck of HMCS Ville de Québec.

Captain (Navy) Chris Dickinson, Naval Reserve Deputy Commander, presided over the ceremony and had the opportunity to enroll his daughter, Fay Dickinson. Among the 15 officer cadets enrolled, 13 of them joined the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP), while the other 2 officer cadets joined the Aboriginal Leadership Opportunity Year and the Medical Officer Training Plan.

"This is a proud day for me as both a father and an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy," said Captain (Navy) Dickinson. "Today, my daughter and 14 other remarkable young Canadians joined the ranks of a noble profession and received a scholarship to attend Canadian university programs. Through a rigorous selection process, they were chosen amongst 2000 applicants for their strong academic and athletic achievements as well as their leadership potential."

The new officer cadets, who represent the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army, and the Royal Canadian Air Force, will be attending orientation training before beginning their post-secondary education. In summer 2013, the officer cadets will undergo their Basic Military Officer Qualification training in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec.

The ROTP combines a first-class university education, with opportunities to overcome personal and physical challenges and to further develop leadership skills, while preparing for a career as a commissioned officer in the CF. The officer cadets will be attending either the Royal Military College of Canada, in Kingston, Ontario, or the Royal Military College Saint-Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec. In cases where a specific academic program is not available at the military colleges, the officer cadets may attend a Canadian civilian university.
