VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 29, 2012) - Major Gord Sharpe was named the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre Vancouver Commanding Officer during a ceremony held in New Westminster this morning.
"The position of Commanding Officer at a Recruiting Centre is an important one. Major Sharpe will command 60 people in Vancouver and Victoria and will be responsible for the screening and processing of approximately 2 000 applicants per year," said Brigadier-General Louis Meloche, the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group Commander. "Major Sharpe has had a very diverse career and he has demonstrated his leadership abilities during his time at the 443 Squadron and with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). I am confident that he will excel in his new responsibilities as a Commanding Officer."
Major Sharpe grew up in a military family and joined the Canadian Forces in 1987 as a Rifleman with The Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He joined the Regular Force in 1989 under the Regular Officer Training Plan and graduated in 1993 from the Royal Military College of Canada, in Kingston, Ontario, with an Engineering degree. He earned his Air Navigator Wings in 1994 and has had several postings at 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron in Victoria, British Columbia. He has also served at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe NATO Operational Headquarters in Mons, Belgium.

In his spare time, Major Sharpe enjoys training for and running in marathons and he also enjoys the outdoors with his wife Andrea and their two sons, Marshall and Harris.
The Canadian Forces Recruiting Group's mission is to support the operational capability of the Canadian Forces by recruiting Canadian citizens to join the Regular Force and to process the requests of Canadian citizens who wish to join the Primary Reserve or the Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service.
