ONTARIO, OTTAWA--(Marketwire - April 18, 2008) -

What: World's Biggest Lesson

Who: Toronto students and teachers

Where: Toronto Lesson
OISE, University of Toronto
7th floor - room107, 252 Bloor St. West

When: Wednesday, April 23, 10:00am to 12:00pm

Students from across Canada are joining millions of children around the globe to set a world record for the largest lesson ever. The subject of the lesson: access to education for all the world's children. At the highlight event in Toronto, students become the teachers as they lead peers, teachers and Members of Parliament in a lesson about the right of all children to access quality education. Across Canada, students from 96 schools from Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia, to Whitecourt, Alberta, will also take part in the Guinness challenge.

72 million children do not have access to education, despite promises made by world leaders to ensure access to basic education for all. "It's important for children to speak up for the rights of other children," says Dr. Karen Mundy, Chair of the Canadian Global Campaign for Education. "The children of the world have been promised access to education by world leaders and all that is missing is the political will."

At the Toronto event, students delivering the lesson will ask "What makes for a good or bad education?" "What proportion of girls and women in the world are unable to read or write?" and "Has every child been promised an education?"

The World's Biggest Lesson is part of a Global Action Week, April 21-27, 2008. The week's theme is "Quality Education to End Exclusion" and conference on "Education in Conflict Affected States" will take place on April 28.
