OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 29, 2008) - The Canadian Human Rights Commission was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Gordon Fairweather.

Mr. Fairweather's accomplishments as the first Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission greatly contributed to shaping Canada's human rights system.

Mr. Fairweather once succinctly described the ultimate objectives of the Canadian Human Rights Commission as: social justice and social change. His achievements in protecting the rights of women, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities have had a profound influence on Canadian society.

In celebrating his life, we draw inspiration from his unwavering commitment to respect, dignity and equality for all human beings. His vision for a more inclusive society continues to contribute to promoting and protecting human rights in Canada and around the world.
